Goals
This conference intends to give a brief overview on the latest developments made on the OpenSEES framework as well as to present some research and practical outcomes in which OpenSEES plays an important role.
Users workshop: Tuesday 18 June 2019
A one-day annual workshop providing foundational knowledge on using OpenSEES at a level suitable for beginner and intermediate users. The workshop is led primarily by Dr. Frank McKenna, founder and manager of OpenSEES, and will cover the following topics:
Getting started with OpenSEES and introduction to user resources
Definition of structural models including nodes, constraints, and materials
Introduction to analysis commands
Troubleshooting convergence problems and model errors
Examples from structures, geotechnics, and solid mechanics
Developers workshop: Wednesday 19 June 2019
Following the users’ workshop, the developers’ workshop will delve into introduction of new modules into the OpenSEES framework, such as new material and element models, through various hands-on exercises. The topics covered will include:
Introduction to object-oriented programming and C++
OpenSEES software architecture
Uniaxial material interface and how to implement new material models
Domain classes, element interface, and analysis classes
Component interaction and hands-on implementation session
OpenSEES - The Open System For Earthquake Engineering Simulation
The Open System for Earthquake Engineering Simulation (OpenSEES) is a software framework for simulating the seismic response of structural and geotechnical systems. OpenSEES has been developed as the computational platform for research in performance-based earthquake engineering at the Pacific Earthquake Engineering Research Center. OpenSEES is also the simulation component for the NEESit since 2004.
Capabilities
OpenSEES has advanced capabilities for modeling and analyzing the nonlinear response of systems using a wide range of material models, elements, and solution algorithms. The software is designed for parallel computing to allow scalable simulations on high-end computers or for parametric studies.
Modelling
OpenSEES provides several elements for structural and geotechnical models. A wide range of materials and section models is available.
Analysis
Nonlinear analysis requires efficient algorithms and solution methods. OpenSEES supports nonlinear static and dynamic analyses by means of state-of-the-art solvers and methods for handling constraints.
Development Process
OpenSEES is an open-source software. Its official website provides information about software architecture, access to the source code and development process.
